Rheumatology deals with a wide range of disciplines related to modern trends in clinical and experimental research associated with physiology, inflammatory, immunologic, metabolic, and degenerative soft and hard connective tissue diseases, and also pediatric rheumatology. Rheumatism or rheumatic disorder refers to an acute or chronic illness which is characterized by inflammation and reduced function of connecting or supporting structures such as the joints, tendons, ligaments, bones, and muscles. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder which is characterized by pain and inflammation at joints of hands and legs. It is a chronic disease common in women above age 40. Sometimes it affects other body organs like skin, eyes, lungs and blood vessels. It is caused when our body organs are attacked by our immune system.

Common symptoms seen are red, swollen joints, inflamed connective tissues such as cartilage, synovial tissue, and tendons.
